Adverbial Phrase
An adverbialphrase is simply a group of two or more words that function as an adverb in a sentence
Adjective Phrase
An adjective phrase is a group of words that describe a noun or pronoun in a sentence.
Prepositional Phrase
A prepositional phrase is a group of words that describe a preposition in a sentence.
To analyze these phrases, we can make a tree diagram. The tree diagram is easier to understand when we are finding phrases above.
She wrote a message on the wall.
The baby slept soundly.
The children scream histerically.
Ken made a cake for the party.
Suzanna is extremely scary move.
The way to make the tree diagram:
- Make the acronym of sentence become 'S'
- divide the 'S' into two parts: NP and VP
- identify the word depend on its part of speech
The acronyms:
1. S: Sentence
2. NP: Noun Phrase
3. VP: Verb Phrase
4. V: Verb
5. N: Noun
6. Det: Determiner
7. Adv.P: Adverbial Phrase
8. Deg: Degree (kind of adverb)
9. Adj: Adjective
10. Pro: Pronoun
11. Pre: Preposition
12. PP: Prepositional Phrase
