Simple Sentence and Complex Sentence
Sentence
Sentence is a group of words that use to comunicate an ideas in writing in speech.
A sentence consists of two main parts, they are:
- Subject
The word or words that names person, thing, place, etc.
- Predicate
Makes a statement about the subject.
It consists of verb and its modifiers or complements.
The Clause
1. Independent Clause
Is a group of words that has a subject and vverb.
It is used as a part of a sentence but is gramatically independent.
e.g: I may declare my major now, but I can still change it later.
2. Dependent Clause
It cannot stand alone because the subordinator signals need for an independent clause to complete the meaning of sentence.
e.g: When you enter the room,...
Simple Sentence:
Is a complete which contains a subject and a verb followed by other words which make up the meaning.
The bird flew away a sentence
The man in the street not a sentence
The sentence below are all simple sentences eventhough they have compund parts:
- compound subject:
Apes and monkeys are primates.
- compound predicates:
Scientists observe and study wildlife.
- compound subject and compound predicate:
Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey observed and studied primates in the wild.

Complete Sentence
Has a subject and verb and relate a complete of thought.
e.g: He enjoys his meal. (transitive verb)
He arrives at 1 pm. (intransitive verb)
Complex Sentence
Showing how ideas and/or events are related to each other and providing extra information about certain words or phrases. A complex sentence consists of a main clause and one or more subordinate clauses.
